The First Haven Initiative Class Is In the Books!
First Haven Initiative class in the books. It was a massive success with tons of different agencies showing up to help.
All the parents and especially the children seem to love learning jiu jitsu with the law enforcement officers. I couldn't be happier with the overall outcome and I look forward to doing more of these in the future. Thank you to the Syracuse Police for hosting us and everyone who game together to help make the event possible. The officers and departments should be extremely proud supporting all these amazing kids.
This helps remind people that all of us are in this together and law enforcement is here to help. Let's keep putting law enforcement in the positive light they deserve and putting community first!

Why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a self-defense martial art focused on taking an opponent to the ground and getting to different positions of control. Different from other martial arts in that it rarely uses strikes, its objectives are achieved through grappling techniques allowing a trained person to achieve control of an opponent through the use of proper positioning, leverage and weight distribution.
BJJ is a great way to develop self-defense skills, build confidence, and learn how to control your anger. BJJ also offers many other benefits, including improved focus, increased energy levels, and getting fit.
The martial art was originally developed in the 1920’s when members of the Gracie family in Brazil were taught the traditional Japanese martial arts of Judo and Jujutsu. The Gracie’s modified the lessons and techniques from these arts into their own system that over time developed into what we now know as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It’s popularity in the United States took off with the advent of the UFC in the 1990’s, and is now trained by millions of people of all ages and backgrounds across the country as a safe way to learn self-defense and get exercise.
